Represent Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa to co-lead an afterschool club for 6 weeks at elementary schools in the Des Moines metro. Attend a volunteer orientation/training to familiarize yourself with the activities you will be delivering during the club sessions. The curriculum and supplies will be prepared for you to help you facilitate successful and fun club sessions!

Iowa Healthiest State Initiative Double Up Food Bucks Volunteer Network
Volunteer with the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative Double Up Food Bucks program to share information at local farmer's markets about the program and how it works. The program runs May 1st-Oct. 31st. |
Ethnic Minorities of Burma Advocacy and Resource Center (EMBARC) Volunteer TrainingEMBARC will be holding a 2017 kickoff volunteer orientation on February 28th from 5:30-7:00 at our office at 2309 Euclid Avenue! This orientation will include orientation on EMBARC, the people we serve, and all of the new ways you can be a part of our team! This event is also a wonderful opportunity to have any questions you have answered by EMBARC staff and past volunteers!

Iowa Wild Split the Pot RaffleOngoing opportunity: Adaptive Sports Iowa will be hosting a Split the Pot Raffle at all Iowa Wild home games during the 2016/17 season. One lucky fan will go home with half of the net proceeds and the other half will be donated to Adaptive Sports Iowa. Volunteers will help sell raffles and get free admission.

Everybody Wins! IowaOngoing opportunity: Everybody Wins! Iowa, a mentor-based reading program for elementary school students, has partnered with Oak Ridge Neighborhood to bring our weekly reading program to the neighborhood. Volunteers would be matched with a student (on Tuesdays) or a student and parent (on Wednesdays) to read together and talk while working on literacy skills and sharing a love of reading.

4-H Math TutoringOngoing opportunity: A 4-H learning community at the Najah Cultural Center is in need of math tutors for middle- & high school-level math. Having college students as tutors is beneficial for the youth to increase their future academic aspirations. Tutors can be split between the days - it is okay if a student can only commit to one day per week, or one day every other week.

Women Go Red CommitteeOngoing opportunity: The American Heart Association is looking for students who want to be a part of a new committee to help engage local businesses in the Go Red For Women Event. The committee will also learn how the American Heart Association is run as well as what services and research we provide the community. Meetings are once a month and are midday or night meetings.

Homeschool Elementary Robotics ClubOngoing opportunity: The Des Moines Metro Homeschool Wonder League is looking for a few college students to volunteer as mentors for their club. The club meets weekly on Mondays from 2-4 and on Thursdays from 10:30-12:30 at Zion Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Volunteers do not need to be available both days. Up to four volunteers are needed for each of the days the club meets. As a mentor, you will help assist the club organizers as they assist kids ages 4-12 in coding and robotics using wonder workshops products.

Salsa Des Moines Board of Directors Ongoing opportunity: Salsa Des Moines is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the promotion of Salsa and other Latin dances throughout the state of Iowa. Salsa Des Moines is currently looking for volunteers to serve on its Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will have experience as a Certified Public Accountant, bookkeeper, actuary or attend a graduate program in accounting or actuarial sciences. The Finance Committee volunteer will attend monthly committee meetings, review and advise on development of operating and capital budgets, be responsible for review and approval of monthly financials, present any recommendations/concerns to the Board of Directors and assist with other tasks.

Harding Middle School Latino MentorOngoing opportunity: GEAR UP Iowa has designed an 8-week curriculum that is culturally responsive to the needs of Latino youth which promotes a college-going culture among students. They are seeking Latino college students who would be interested in serving as mentors and facilitators to deliver an 8-week curriculum. We are hoping to have 3-4 female students and 3-4 male students who can commit to being a mentor twice a month at Harding Middle School in Des Moines .

Girls on the Run Coaching OpportunityOngoing Opportunity: Girls on the Run will begin the season the week of March 20 and run through May 26. Meet two times each week for 75 minutes a session to train for a 5K with girls in 3rd through 8th grade to help encourage positive physical activities.
