The Community Action Board is a resource to connect Community Partners with Drake Students passionate about service and their community.
While this is not an exhaustive list of volunteer opportunities in the area, it can get students starting to think about how to connect with the opportunities all around them. ART & CULTURE
After School Art
Be a snack coordinator, table host, opening activity leader, artist or studio assistant, substitute, or office assistant at an after school arts program only seven miles from Drake.

Work with students using poetry, breakdancing, and graffiti to inspire creativity, success, and social justice. Often hosted at the Des Moines Social Club, Movement 515 allows a space for students to express themselves in positive and meaningful ways..
Help the largest rescue center in the state to make meaningful changes for animals in need. The Animal Rescue League of Iowa strives to increase community intervention to help protect all living creatures.

Lutheran Services in Iowa
LSI partners with children, youth and families, people with disabilities, the elderly and people of refugee status – helping people in times of need, strengthening families and advocating dignity and social justice for our neighbors in the community.

ChildServe improves the health and well-being of over 3,500 children each year through specialized clinical, home, and community-based programs and services. We serve children with developmental delays, disabilities, acquired injuries, and other special healthcare needs.

Beacon of Life strives to give homeless women a place of safety and security to overcome addictions and personal struggles. Help with programming, donations, and administrative tasks.

The Central Iowa Shelter helps to provide low-barrier shelter, meals and support services at no cost to adults experiencing homelessness and to facilitate their move toward self-sufficiency.

Iowa Homeless Youth Centers
Iowa Homeless Youth Centers (IHYC) works to eliminate homelessness among children, youth and young mothers in Polk County. We believe, with support and assistance, homeless individuals and families can live independently and attain self-sufficiency.

The Drake Area Food Pantry is a collaboration between IMPACT and Cross Ministries to aid in providing food for families in need in Des Moines. Within walking distance of Drake!
Drake Neighborhood Farmer's Market
Enjoy locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables, and baked-goods right off of campus. The Drake Neighborhood Farmer's Market offers opportunities for volunteers to gain professional experience organizing and promoting events.
